The Hand of the Lord

Brothers,

This week, instead of the normal type of letter I typically write, I want you to read something much more encouraging and inspiring than I could ever pen. In the following verses from various Psalms, focus on the hand of the Lord and all He does: from rooting out the wicked to gathering His people to protecting them and ultimately calling them to be with Him. May these passages be to you what they truly are – the inspired Word of God which brings fear to the sinner and hope and joy to the righteous and therefore elicits all three responses (fear, hope, and joy) in us.

Your brother in Christ,

Corey

Psalms 85:4-7

Restore us, O God of our salvation,

And cause Your anger toward us to cease.

5 Will You be angry with us forever?

Will You prolong Your anger to all generations?

6 Will You not revive us again,

That Your people may rejoice in You?

7 Show us Your mercy, Lord,

And grant us Your salvation.

Psalms 107:28-32

Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,

And He brings them out of their distresses.

29 He calms the storm,

So that its waves are still.

30 Then they are glad because they are quiet;

So He guides them to their desired haven.

31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,

And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Psalms 106:47-48

Save us, O Lord our God,

And gather us from among the Gentiles,

To give thanks to Your holy name,

To triumph in Your praise.

Psalms 5:4-6

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,

Nor shall evil dwell with You.

5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;

You hate all workers of iniquity.

6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;

The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

Psalms 5:11-12

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;

Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name

Be joyful in You.

12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;

With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Psalms 8

O Lord, our Lord,

How excellent is Your name in all the earth,

Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants

You have ordained strength,

Because of Your enemies,

That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

4 What is man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You visit him?

5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,

And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

9 O Lord, our Lord,

How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Psalms 84:1-2

How lovely is Your tabernacle,

O Lord of hosts!

2 My soul longs, yes, even faints

For the courts of the Lord;

My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Psalms 84:10-12

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

The Lord will give grace and glory;

No good thing will He withhold

From those who walk uprightly.

12 O Lord of hosts,

Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Psalms 90:1-2

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
